Football finals fever is rampant in Kyneton, with the Tigers playing in both senior and Under 19.5 semi-finals this weekend.
“We need the full Tiger Army in Woodend on Sunday to roar on the boys to victory,” was the message from Kyneton Football Netball Club after the club’s two teams survived Riddell League elimination finals.
The Ethan Foreman-coached seniors finished sixth on the ladder, but rose to the occasion in outstanding fashion to score the last two goals and eliminate third-placed Wallan, 12.15 to 11.9.
Now the Tigers go to play top side Diggers Rest at Gilbert Gordon Oval, taking added confidence from Riddell Bombers absolutely wiping the Burras 19.12 to 6.7.
Winning its first senior final since 1997 has further galvanised Kyneton and Foreman said his side matches up well against Diggers Rest, led by playing coach Sean Campbell.
A large number of Kyneton supporters made their presence felt last Sunday, and even more are expected to make the short journey to Woodend.
‘VERY SIMILAR SIDE’
Late yesterday the coach said the Tigers should field “a very similar side” to the one that accounted for Wallan.
The Tigers gained added knowledge by seeing how Riddell outclassed their opponents.
Sunday’s main match begins at 2.15pm, with Kyneton’s Under 19.5s kicking off the day playing Romsey at 10.15am.
In the Reserves on Sunday, Riddell play Diggers Rest.
SATURDAY at Romsey: Seniors — Riddell v Macedon; Reserves — Romsey v Wallan ; U19.5s Gisborne Giants v Macedon.
