Embracia Victoria has begun early works on the redevelopment of the Old Kyneton Hospital into a mixed-use destination.
Director Sarah MacKenzie said Embracia had long awaited the chance to restore the Old Kyneton Hospital into a mixed-use destination.
“The proposed adaptive re-use development will combine commercial offices on the ground floor, which will endeavour to support local businesses,” Ms MacKenzie said.
“The first floor will be transformed into entertainment and function spaces for hire, taking in views of the Campaspe River as well as the rolling Kyneton hills.
“This project in combination with the upcoming aged care construction on the western part of the site, due to commence in November, will reinvigorate the once remarkable landmark, and welcome the public back to the old Kyneton hospital precinct.”
These early works will focus on investigating key structural and heritage concerns to inform the extent of demolition and strip-out required, targeting late-century joinery and partitions while retaining all heritage walls.
The purpose of this phase is to assess the condition of the original structure by removing existing plaster, furniture, fittings and floor finishes in identified areas to reveal underlying damage and determine the most appropriate restoration methods.
Abode Restoration, in collaboration with Embracia, Heritage Victoria and Heritage Alliance will lead this stage to investigate and prepare the site for full restoration of the three heritage buildings.
