Family devastated by loss

Bianca's cottage was among the homes lost in the fire.

Harcourt mum Bianca Hitchens and her sons were among the community members to lose their homes in Friday’s fire at Harcourt.
Bianca and her sons Tyler and Will were devastated.

“I’m broken-hearted. Friday’s fires that hit Harcourt so quickly, claimed my beautiful modest 100 year old cottage that I’ve lived in with my boys for 23 years. It burnt to the ground,” Bianca said.

“Devastated isn’t a word that comes close. I thought maybe I could stay back, turned on the hose but quickly realised that I didn’t have a chance.

“Will and I and our neighbours fled to Bendigo with the clothes on our back and our pets. We waited with bated breath to see footage of our homes in piles of rubble,” Bianca said.

“I’m very private, but I don’t mind saying that my insurance will not cover my home.

“Nine of the houses in our street (Station Street) were decimated. I’m not to sure where from here. We thought we would be back that night.

“Friends have set up a GoFundMe page and people have been incredibly generous, but I don’t expect anyone donate. I just ask that people keep us all in their thoughts,” Bianca said.
