Major upgrade works to Carlsruhe’s BP roadhouse are expected to begin late 2022 to early 2023.

It’s a significant upgrade for the 1970s service station with plans for improved facilities, EV charge-points, more truck parking and parkland area. The design duplicates that of Longwarry’s Caltex/Hungry Jacks service centre off Princes Highway.

Developer Andrew Ferguson told the Express it was now in the process of applying for signage.

The site is located within the Farming Zone where the maximum permitted signage size is 3m² but the standard BP branding is 10m x 2.5m.

The application for a special controls overlay will be assessed by the state government.

The service centre will remain a 24-hour, seven-day station and registered as a VicRoads rest-stop.

Mr Ferguson told the Express that despite significant interest, no agreement had yet been finalised with an operator of the three fast-food restaurants.

“There has been a lot of interest. We are still in talks but are close to finalising who they will be,” he said.
