A 100km/h speed limit on the southbound Calder Freeway exit to Woodend/Lancefield has long had local road users baffled.
“The S-bend exit ends at a roundabout and no one could safely approach it at that speed,” one reader told the Midland Express.
Acting Regional Roads Victoria director (Loddon Mallee) Barry Green said RRV assessed speed limits on a case-by-case basis.
“The 100km/h speed limit along this exit has been deemed appropriate by our road safety experts — however we always urge motorists to drive to the conditions and slow down when approaching a roundabout,” he said.
“There are signs in place along the exit ramp to notify drivers of the upcoming roundabout and to encourage drivers to slow down, to safely give way.”
Mr Green said RRV had not received any concerns or complaints about the speed limit approaching the roundabout. “We encourage the community to report hazards or any concerns about the condition of the road network by calling our hotline on 13 37 78,” he said.
