Somewhere over the rainbow

Oz Demirhan with her flowers.

Coming from Turkey to Melbourne to escape political unrest in 2015-16, Oz Demirhan could never have imagined that she would be able to start her own business.

It all began while walking with little son Lennon during the first COVID lockdown and admiring rainbows decorating people’s windows. It inspired her to revive her old hobby of macrame.

After making rainbows for what seemed like everyone, she went on to other macrame creations, which culminated in her own flower design.

Oz has now combined two loves – macrame and engaging with her community to begin running workshops. She also sells her designs at local markets.

Oz’s advice to others, especially those new to Australia is: “Just try. If you fail, you’ll learn. And if you don’t, then wow, you will have so much happiness”.

Oz’s Macrame and Textile Flower workshops will be available for people wanting to learn the craft at The Old Auction House in Kyneton.
