Artists to shine at Twilight Market

Local artist Taofi Faatau, Castlemaine Artist Market coordinator Beck Meyers and artist Elizabeth Woodroofe are pictured with an array of their beautiful creations and encourage community members to get along to the Twilight Market at the Western Reserve this Friday.

Castlemaine Artists Market and Young Makers Market are joining forces to hold a Twilight Market that will light up Castlemaine’s Western Reserve this Friday.

Go along and meander through more than 90 stalls of handmade quality artwork to find the perfect gift for your loved one.

Among the talented local artists to attend will be Elizabeth Woodroofe of ‘Corn Dollies’ and Taofi Faatau of ‘Coloured Skins’.

Elizabeth has been visiting the monthly Artists Market for about three years with her gorgeous array of handmade traditional straw designs.

“I will have a lovely selection of homemade Christmas decorations in addition to my ancient traditional decorative pieces, which are infused with good spirits, luck and fertility,” she said.

Taofi and her partner Haydn Lockwood have been regulars at the market for just over 12 months. Taofi specialists in eco-print clothing and accessories and Haydn makes leather belts, bags and accessories.

Taofi said her silk scarves and other pieces were created utilising eucalypts, plants and flowers harvested from her large garden.

“It is fascinating to discover the colours which each of the plants creates. I have been growing dye flowers to add vibrant colour. For example pink hibiscus creates a gorgeous blue,” she said.

Among her latest creations is a beautiful leather satchel, which combines both her eco-print and Haydn’s leather crafting talents.

While you browse the myriad of stalls featuring artworks and wares and chat to the artists about their creations, you can also enjoy delicious food and drink, coffee and dessert options.

Be treated to the sounds of young musicians who are part of Mount Alexander Shire’s FREEZA program, playing an exciting and diverse range of tunes.

There will also be plenty of children’s activities, a Christmas Treasure Hunt as well as live demonstrations in the creative arts.

The event will run from 3pm-7pm. Bring the whole family and come join a wonderful night out on the town, whether you are a local or visiting the region.
