Castlemaine Theatre Company has joined forces with Mount Alexander Shire Council to bring a free performance program to young people aged 13-18 in the shire.

The program consists of a series of after-school workshops that run on Mondays 5.30pm-7.30pm at CTC’s rehearsal studio at Etty Street during term 3. The first one will be held on Monday, July 28.

The workshops will culminate in a public performance during the spring school holidays.

The project will be a creative adventure in which participants will devise and develop their own performance.

Each workshop will cover a different performance technique including voice work, movement and dance, all kinds of methods for generating performance ideas, listening skills and self-awareness. There will also be plenty of games to support trust and fun.

CTC has two fantastic facilitators to guide the group through the process.

Karen Berger is new to Castlemaine and has worked developing performance with young people and community all over the world.

She brings a breadth of expertise in a range of performing arts disciplines, as well as being an experienced director and teacher.

Working alongside Karen will be CTC’s youth facilitator Thea Sydes.

Thea grew up in Castlemaine and has performed in a number of CTC shows including Peter Panto, Romeo and Juliet and Qubit. Thea is currently studying year 11 at Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, specialising in Theatre Studies.

Last year they worked on two projects with Melbourne-based theatre collective Pony Cam, devising performances in Castlemaine, and also in Frankston. The program is free however you must book to reserve a place. There are still a few places available, but book now to secure a place.
