Lancefield Show has lots to offer

BARRY HUNT SPUD TOSS: This new event at the Lancefield Show honours Barry Hunt (pictured) a long-time 'local legend' potato grower and supporter of many Lancefield clubs and organisations. Lancefield Men's Shed has made a large potato-shaped target for participants to test their skills. The agricultural society has decided it will be an annual event on its show program.

The countdown is on to the 2025 Lancefield Agricultural Show to be held this Sunday, October 19.

“There will be a large range of traditional show exhibits and displays, with plenty to see and do from 9am to 4pm … very affordable with plenty of fun for families from near and far,” society president Hugh Parks told the Express.

“It’s Lancefield Agricultural Society’s main activity each year, and we thank all helpers, exhibiters and sponsors.”

Organisers are keeping their fingers crossed that weather will be favourable for Sunday, with both locals and visitors alike swelling the attendance at Lancefield Park.

Entry for those aged 12 and under is free, and there’s a whole range of free attractions on the busy program.

Woodchops are usually a big drawcard, and Central Victorian Axemen’s Association has a strong program of events arranged once again. The skills of some of these outstanding competitors are remarkable.

Other favourites include Farmer Darryl’s animal nursery, camel and pony rides, Snake Safe, Proactivity, terrier races, shearing demonstrations, dog trials, the popular tractor pull, and various rides and jumping castles.

Sheep, wool and poultry will be displayed under cover on the east side of the main oval.

Showbags, food and much more will be available around the park.

$1000 PRIZE

The dog high jump has been popular at the Lancefield Show for years, and this time there is $1000 on offer. Some hopeful participants and their dogs are believed to have been in training for quite some time.

Tickets for adult admittance and for major rides are available in advance this week, with free entry in a lucky draw.

The Laurie Green Pavilion will house homecraft competitions and craft market stalls, with the CWA prominent.

There will be a feature display of vehicles and machinery at least 100 years old, and in working order.

Various groups and organisations will be out in force to add to the show atmosphere.

Included will be local primary schools, Lancefield senior and junior football clubs, local wineries, CFA, Western Water, Landcare, SES Kilmore, Lancefield Romsey Early Education, Romsey and Lancefield Historical Society, Project Hope and MRSC free health checks.
