Visiting the Lancefield and District Farmers Market this Saturday is a great way to spread the Christmas cheer, by keeping funds in the region and making a local producer’s day!
This well-established market offers a vast array of locally produced foods, beverages, plants, healthcare items, poultry and livestock feeds every month of the year – rain, hail or shine!
This month the market happens one week earlier, to allow for you to stock up on all your Christmas table needs and purchase last-minute gifts.
This month the market says goodbye to one of the market’s original producers, June Dawson of Dawson’s Honey.
June has been attending the market since its beginning in 2003 and has loved her (nearly) 23 years of trading at Lancefield with her honey.
“I will be sad to say goodbye to everyone, however Chris (husband) and I agreed that we would stop trading when varroa mite became a reality for our operations. That time has come and we refuse to use chemicals in our honey to control this.” she said.
June will have her box of tissues at the ready – market organisers encourage everyone who has enjoyed Dawson’s Honey over the past two decades to stop by and wish June well on the next era of life for her and Chris.
Christmas market highlights include;
• regeneratively produced meats for your festive tables from MR Lamb, McIvor Farm Foods, Larder Mouse Farm and Tall Poppy Organic Beef
• exceptional smallgoods from The Meat Room and Warialda Beef
• family recipe cakes and treats – O’Callaghans Irish Fruit Cake and Romagna 29 paneforte
• cool climate sparkling wines of high distinction from Midhill Vineyard, Double Oaks and Wilimee Wines making their annual appearance
• new season capers from Wot’s Ya Caper and fresh garlic from Landscape Hill
The market features many great food stalls, ready to eat, as well as cool beverages to enjoy while you soak up the luscious melodies of local performers The Sunset Singers and Jarrod Shaw. Free face-paint for the kids and this is also a dog friendly market.
Set along Lancefield’s historic Centre Plantation on High Street, this event is a good one to add to your weekend Christmas preparations to tick some things off your list while enjoying the relaxed community vibes under the lush canopy of trees.
The market is an initiative of the Lancefield Neighbourhood House Inc.
