Anglers of all ages and experience can look forward to a community event Fishing for Mental Health next month.

Organiser Jack Bamford said the event aims to create a fun and inclusive day for people to connect and socialise, to boost mental health.

“Fishing for Mental Health is about old fashioned conversation, talking to a stranger, and making yourself known,” he said.

“It’s good to chat to people. A problem shared is a problem halved.”

There will be prizes for the biggest fish of each each species, raffles, some free ice cream, a barbecue, and live entertainment from Sarah Holden. Victorian Fisheries will also be on site to help introduce people to fishing.

Mr Bamford is expecting between 100 and 300 people to attend on the day.

He has secured 104 fishing rods for the day – so, if you don’t have a rod yourself, there’s easy access.

The event will be held at the Coliban Wall, Spring Hill Road, on Saturday, February 14, from 9am to 2pm.

Kyneton Angling Club and Kyneton RSL are among the supporters of this event.

People may donate their old or broken rods and reels for the day. They will be fixed and revamped for people to use.

Donations of rods and reels can be left at either Romsey or Lancefield Neighbourhood Houses.
