Unique opportunity

Rob Bakes, Pastoria

Now that the Kyneton and District Town Square Co-Op is about to happen (Sunday August 26 to be precise), the Victorian Labor Party policy on cooperatives makes for very encouraging reading.
Perhaps there is real hope in this policy document that the Labor Party will give support to our exciting community initiative for local control and responsibility for the Old Baynton Street Primary School precinct using a cooperative model.
I quote from the closing sentence in the policy document, “explore how the government might assist in the development of completely new co-operative enterprises”.
Kyneton is about to start a brand new cooperative enterprise. The commercial activities of the co-op will fund initiatives for public good and benefit. What a wonderful opportunity the town square project presents for the Labor Government to implement its innovative cooperative policy.
