Last week, Madderns IGA in Barker Street has gone plastic bag free. It’s a courageous move as its main rival has so far refused to make the move. Castlemaine Fresh is also giving it a trial run in July.
The Hub Foundation is encouraging members of the public to support these businesses. Shop there, tell the staff you support ‘plastic bag free Castlemaine’ and, of course, remember to take your own bag!
Single use plastic is doing irreparable harm to the global environment. Many countries have already banned it, as have many towns, regions and companies in Australia.
It’s clearly a change whose time has come.
