Hans Paas, Castlemaine
Safety concerns regarding ‘crossing risks real’ (Express, August 28) need to be addressed urgently. Anyone travelling south from Lockwood to Maldon has zero visibility for trains travelling from Castlemaine towards Maldon.
Last time I drove that way I realised that it was tantamount to playing ‘Russian roulette’ as a safe crossing of the rail line was purely a matter of chance.
I suggest that a ‘Stop’ sign be installed without delay. This will enhance safety until a permanent solution is found. Road users will find it very irritating but you cannot be irritated by something if you are dead and as for the train drivers; I am sure they would be severely traumatised if their train caused injury or death to road users who were unable to see their train coming.
