A waste of space

Ian Braybrook, Castlemaine

In reference to the letter of former Councillor Tony Bell (‘The real reason’, Opinions, October 9).
Undoubtedly Tony Bell knows what he is talking about, having been on the council at the time of the notorious and expensive ‘Landfill Debacle’.
I have done a rough calculation based on the figures he quoted and find that the disastrous loss represents (approximately) the rate payment of 85 homes. What’s more there is more to come.
No compactor? Amazing! No compactor definitely causes a waste of space. The same could be said for the people responsible for this catastrophe.
I suspect that I may be one of the 85 ratepayers contributing my cash to this outrage, so I am not very happy.
There is a strong odour coming from the vicinity of the landfill. Call in the Local Government Minister to clear the air perhaps?
