Wins have been relatively scarce for Kyneton-trained gallopers during August, but Misscino flew home to score in a photo-finish in the final event at Warracknabeal on Saturday.
Trainer Helen White’s previous win with the six-year-old was at the same track, back on May 16 this year.
White prepares a small team, and the impeccably bred mare has been knocking on the door in similar class at recent outings.
From a wide barrier, Misscino settled mid-field in the 1200m 0-58 Emmett’s John Deere Handicap, with jockey Dean Holland chasing a treble on the eight-event program.
There was a charge to the line in the last 100 metres, with Misscino – a $7 chance – overhauling favourite Ginny Ann in the last couple of strides. Less than a length separated the first five across the line.
The winner has had several trainers in a 38-start career that has realised four wins and 13 placings, for stakemoney of $135,730.
A $300,000 BUY
By Smart Missile from Limincino, Misscino was purchased for $300,000 at the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale by Aquanita Racing, but never lived up to initial expectations.
Notables including Robert Smerdon and Darren Weir and South Australian trainer Will Clarken had the galloper in their stable for different periods, and White is hoping there may be further wins in store.
Earlier in the day, 10-year-old Kazoom, trained by George Osborne, resumed from a spell and finished strongly in an 1800m event to finish second, with the course broadcaster unable to pick the winner.
