An explosive 125 by opening batsman Tommy Logan highlighted Malmsbury’s successful return to cricket on Saturday.
The club’s two senior sides recorded victories and Logan’s maiden century in the Jensen Shield match at Gisborne’s Sankey Reserve earned him ‘The Big Show’ tag.
His highly entertaining knock, littered with boundaries, put the Berries on the way to a formidable 7/275 c.c. It was an absolute delight to watch.
JD ‘Guns’ Singh clobbered 56 in the second-wicket stand of 158 with Logan, and a quick fire 49 from Palmy Singh ensure a huge score. Ben Van Emmerick took three wickets.
Facing a huge run chase, Gisborne was never in the hunt and reached 6/135, with wickets shared. James McGibbon scored an impressive unbeaten 46.
Malmsbury’s division 2 side batted first against Macedon on a superbly prepared turf pitch at the MCG, and knocked up a very good 9/200 c.c. from 40 overs.
Opener Chris Ganim led the way with an impressive 98, just two short of getting his picture in the paper! Nick Nolte 31 and Tom Kimber 20 offered good support, and Macedon’s Xavier Felice claimed four wickets.
The visitors made a strong run chase, but lost wickets at crucial stages, eventually being dismissed for 180. Ed Ferguson 38 and Fintan Light 20 not out were in good form.
Matt Cox again shone with the ball, capturing 4-29 for the Berries.
This Saturday, Malmsbury plays Blackwood at the MCG in Jensen Shield, with Macedon the opponent in division 2 at Tony Clarke Reserve. North grade takes on Lancefield at Taradale.
