Hat trick, run spree

Malmsbury’s JD 'Guns' Singh produced a hat trick in the Jensen Shield clash at Blackwood.

The match was switched there after the Friday deluge left the MCG under water.


Deciding to bat on a wet wicket, the Berries lost batters at regular intervals to be dismissed for 119 in just 23 overs. JD 37 and Palmy Sing 22 were best with the bat, and Blackwood coach Travis Smithers excelled with 6-17 from 7.2 overs.


After losing two early wickets, Whitehouse took the long handle to the Malmsbury attack, slamming a match-winning 89 (nine sixes, four fours) from just 46 balls.


Blackwood reached 7/120 from just 16 overs, JD ending with 3-9 including the hat trick. Palmy and Quentin Keeble shared the other wickets.


Malmsbury’s division 2 side continue on its winning way, restricting Macedon to 6/122 (Todd Coppin 40 n.o. and Joseph Barham 37 n.o. – Chris Knott and Jake Sundblom both 3-13.

Malmsbury raced to 3/124 in 33 overs, Dave Nolte 51 n.o., Chris Ganim 25 and Matt Cox 16 all doing well. Macedon at MCG (U17 girls).


Playing at Taradale, Malmsbury north grade restricted Lancefield to 7/169 (Bill Phillips 41, Paul Rix 37) in 35 overs, with two wickets each to Steph Sharp and Gavin Marshall.

The Berries turned in another poor batting display, with skipper Chops Chivall’s 35 the main contribution.
