The Kyneton bowls team of Jimmy Cooper, Terry Kelly and Mark Smoljo (s) were successful in the annual Lancefield Invitation Triples Tournament held on Sunday.
Unbeaten after four games, they had to survive a five-ends play-off against the only other four-game winners, namely Gary Dickenson, Aaron Andrews, and Aaron Young (s), who were warmly welcomed back to their former club.
Smoljo and co. led 4-2 after four ends, and after Young’s drive missed, the Kyneton lineup was victorious.
Lancefield president Jeff Smith thanked all the visiting bowlers for supporting the annual tournament, and specially singled out Annie Shipcott for her organisational and catering skills. A champion on and off the green.
He warmly praised long-time tournament major sponsors in Romsey Hot Bread (John and Fay Parks) and TJ Scott & Son, in addition to Mt William Tree Nursery, Lancefield Hardware and Lancefield Providore.
John Parks presented the trophies and said the Kyneton trio were very worthy additions to the honour board for this event.
Responding, Smoljo said it was always pleasing to come to Lancefield and play in tournaments, promising to be back again next year.
Various clubs are conducting tournaments at this time of the year, and appreciate the support from neighbouring and visiting clubs.
