Gisborne Bowling Club’s Ethan Higgins has been crowned Regional Champion after defeating Kyneton’s Craig Vincent in a thrilling Champion of Champions final at City Oval BC last Sunday.

Both players traded shots in the early ends to get to 8-8 before Vincent eked out a two-shot lead. But Higgins came back and started to build his own lead.

Both players were playing great draw bowls on varying length heads, with the occasional up shot thrown in.

Higgins’s consistency started to show through and moved out to a 22-15 lead. But Vincent fought back, drawing shot bowls under great pressure until both were level on 22.

Higgins scored one shot on the second last end to lead 23-22 before the last end saw a number of bowls from both players close to the jack.

One bowl was removed, taking Higgins to 24 before a measure for second shot saw that go to Higgins as well to claim victory 25-23. Congratulations to both players who showed great drawing skills, often under the pressure of being two or three down.

The green was in great condition and City Oval should be congratulated for their presentation of the venue.
In the women’s final, Sarah Braybrook of Webbcona defeated Michelle Tait (BMS).
