Big game at Gisborne

Gisborne ran riot over Maryborough at the Bulldogs' Gardiner Reserve fortress on Saturday.

After winning by a massive 172 points against Maryborough on Saturday, Bendigo League football ladder-leader Gisborne now face up to Strathfieldsaye at Gardiner Reserve in the match of the round.

On May 7 the Bulldogs beat the Storm by six points, and these two sides are favoured to meet in the 2022 grand final.

Strathfieldsaye outclassed Castlemaine 26.12 to 4.3 in the build-up to the Gardiner Reserve clash.

A good victory on Saturday would enhance Gisborne’s flag prospects, while the visitors will be out to fully test the home side.

Against bottom side Maryborough, Gisborne monopolised the ball and restricted the opposition to just three scoring shots for the entire match.

The Bulldogs included several of their top players, and the visitors battled to clear the ball from their defence.

On-baller Flynn Lakey notched up numerous possessions and the ‘Dogs kicked six majors in each of the first three quarters, and finished off with eight to wrap up proceedings.

Gisborne 26.24 (180) d Maryborough 1.2 (8).
