Gisborne Soccer Club is celebrating league success after their senior women clinched the State League 4 West Championship with a 3-0 win over Point Cook at Dixon Field on August 27.
Needing a win in their final game to secure the title, Gisborne dominated the early stages of the match and took the lead in the 20th minute through an own goal.
Jaclyn Camilleri then made it 2-0 for the hosts in the 55th minute after a brilliant solo run, before Brittany Amor sealed the win with a 78th minute side foot finish.
Camilleri (25 goals) and Amor (21 goals) were Gisborne’s leading scorers all season, finishing first and second respectively in the league top goal-scorer charts.
The two girls spearheaded a squad mixed with youth and experience.
Gisborne, who competed in the same competition as the Afghanistan Women’s National Team this season, led the league for much of the year, defeating each opponent at least once on their way to the title.
Following their title win, Gisborne is promoted and will play in State League 3 West in 2023.
