Gisborne District Cricket Association’s 2022-2023 season is scheduled to begin this Saturday, October 8, but threats of more rain and ground conditions may play a major role in how many matches actually occur.
“Unfortunately, there is more rain forecast for the next few days and this will further hamper access to some grounds,” stated Rob McIntyre, the GDCA’s Competitions Manager.
He said municipal councils have had difficulties getting machinery onto many grounds, particularly in the Macedon Ranges region.
Pitches have had to be uncovered, damaged surfaces repaired after the football season, and grass mowed – not easy due to the softness of some surfaces.
Originally there were five senior divisions scdeduled to begin on Saturday.
Due to some grounds being unplayable, the GDCA Board decided to cancel all division 1 and 2 matches.
Only McIntyre Cup, Johnstone Shield and Jensen Shield opening round games will be played (12.30pm start), depending on weather conditions.
Fixtures on MyCricket have been updated.
The Kilmore versus Macedon match is to be played at the L>B> Davern Reserve in Wandong, and not on the turf wicket at Kilmore.
