Legends build emerging talent

'Tackle Club' is a specially designed development program that gives U15 and U17 boys access to experienced coaching from weekly guest coaches.

Local youth footballers are being provided with game development during the off season thanks to a new initiative called ‘Tackle Club’.

The Woodend Junior Football Netball Club program is specially designed to give U15 and U17 boys access to experienced coaching.

Weekly guest coaches with extensive backgrounds in AFL Youth Pathways and other development programs work to encourage a ‘growth mindset’ in young footballers.

Woodend Masters Football Club, through its partnership with ICON Sports, has supported the production of new reversible training singlets to assist in the program’s implementation.

“Support of local initiatives like this one is core to our philosophy as a club and we are so pleased to be involved,” said Jason Koliba, outgoing Woodend Masters Football Club president.

“It allows us past legends help our local emerging talent grow and develop.”

WJFC president Steve Morrison said the club was thrilled to have the Masters’ help with some of the program’s essentials.

“Anything that brings the Junior, Senior and Masters programs together is a wonderful outcome for the clubs and community,” he said.

Tackle Club started in late October and will continue through until mid-December. The program is held every Wednesday evening at 4.45pm at the Racecourse Oval Reserve (Buffalo Stadium).

Follow the Tackle Club by WJFNC or the Woodend Junior Football Netball Club on Facebook.
