Christmas comes to Parkrun

The Parkrun volunteers got into the festive spirit for the events.

Christmas weekend in Castlemaine saw not one, but two parkrun events held, and both were very well attended by a plethora of visitors from near and far.

The perfect weather encouraged a total of 106 participants to attend event #335 on Christmas Eve and a further 58 to start their Christmas Day enjoying some exercise, at event #336.

Castlemaine Parkrun welcomed visitors from Queensland, Wangaratta, Campaspe, various parts of Melbourne, Tasmania, Port Fairy, New South Wales, Geelong, New Zealand and Bradford in the UK, across the two events.

First finishers on Christmas Eve were locals; John Howorth, first male across the line in a time of 16:45; and first female, Charlotte Streat (22:18). On Christmas Day however, line honours went to visiting runners Michael Morton from Geelong (18:45), and Chloe Russell from Mackay (23:42).

A huge number of PBs were recorded over the two days. Congratulations for this achievement go to Ian Chadwick, Andrew Say, Kyan McGill, Chris Timewell, Mitchell Williams, Dean Podger, Elliot Hutchinson, Kate Freston, Jeanette Miller, Luca Say, Liza Shaw, Marilla Faircloth and Sonny Willis.

First-time participants included Josh Ryan, Laurence Farr, William Lett, Josh Miller, Zoe Manderson, Isabelle Davis, Rohan Wightman and Rachel Comyn.

While some are just beginning, Castlemaine Parkrun also celebrated 100 runs for local runner Steve Parsons and visitor Annie Morton, as well as a whopping 200 for visiting runner Bill Lodwick.

Castlemaine Parkrun recognised the fantastic effort from their volunteers who made this double event possible, some of whom stepped up to give of their time on both occasions: Christine Christie, Ronder Clayton, Michael Constable, Donna Faircloth, Jane Harding, Robin Murdoch, Dave Petrusma, Donna Petrusma, Nicki Renfrey, Raewyn Rice, Chris Timewell, Judy Hill, Peter Hill, Alan Hollensen, Alice, Glen and Karina Taylor. Thank you all, these events simply can’t happen without the volunteers.
