Macedon won the grand final in the GDCA’s Kookaburra Women’s League on Sunday.

Macedon won the grand final in the GDCA’s Kookaburra Women’s League on Sunday, defeating ladder-leaders Lancefield Black.

The victorious side comprised Emily Wilkinson (c), Amy Miles, Millie Harrison, Hannah and Amber Smajila, Elisa Patterson-Lade, Lola and Emma Coppin, Kym Riley, Charli Large and Natasha Lilford. Coach – Tim Berzins.

With a real grand final atmosphere, the match was played at the Lancefield ground, with a background of a huge annual truck show in part of the surrounding park.

Batting first, Lancefield was dismissed for 80 in 21.4 over (Emily Consiglio 24 not out – A. Smajila 3-17, N. Lilford 2-7, H. Smajila 2-8.

Macedon slumped to a shaky 3/12 in the run chase, but an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand saw Macedon reach 3/83 (Amber Smajila and Charli Large both 29 not out—Brooke Jeffrey 2-16).

Footnote: A few hours later, Australia won its third successive Women’s World Cup, defeating South Africa by 19 runs.
