Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club’s final race meeting for the current season is scheduled for this Friday, May 5, at Kyneton.

Freee admission applies for the eight-event program, with the first race at 1pm.

The death of popular and successful jockey Dean Holland in a race fall last week rocked the racing industry, and the local club has included the ‘Vale Dean Holland Maiden Plate’ as race two on the program.

Holland rode plenty of winners at Kyneton over the years, and further tributes are expected to be paid to him at Friday’s meeting.

Race eight, the Miranda Park BM58 Handicap, concludes proceedings at 4.30pm.

TRAINER INJURED

Kyneton trainer Mick Sell was injured in a horse accident on Monday and won’t be able to work for at least three months.

Sell was leading a horse back from the pool when it reared and its legs got tangled in rope and the trainer’s legs, leaving Sell with a fractured leg and broken ankle.

Planned surgery this week has been postponed and the trainer is facing three to four months of post-surgery recovery.
