Heavy rain wrecked Saturday’s Gisborne District Cricket Association matches, with the only one able to be completed being the Jensen 1sts encounter between Malmsbury and Hanging Rock.
This became a 30/30 overs fixture at the Malmsbury Cricket Ground, and star of the show was Malmsbury teenager Nikola Cox who claimed three vital wickets.
Cox claimed 3-27 from six overs, dismissing Hanging Rock top scorers Oliver Watt for 50, Steven Zubryski for 24, and Gary Sandow to change the course of the match.
Hanging Rock was restricted to 9/137 c.c. and in reply Malmsbury rattled up 2/141.
Opener Tom Logan made 40, captain Matt Cox 38 not out, Mark Prudden 28 not out, and Quentin Keeble 28.
In the Club North match between Broadford and Hanging Rock, 14 overs of play was possible before rain put an end to proceedings.
Kieran Haddad was 41 not out as Hanging Rock reached 2/73.
Across the entire GDCA it was obvious there would be extreme doubts about any cricket taking play such was the impact of the rain spread over a couple of days.
In the McIntyre Cup 1sts and 2nds, matches ended up with points shared.
Unbeaten Gisborne had been very confident of defeating Romsey at Gardiner Reserve and leaping ahead on top of the ladder.
On the first day of this match Gisborne had bowled the Redbacks out for 190, and were 1/58 in reply.
