Kyneton speedway racer Chevette Muir has claimed the Junior Formula 500 Speedweek Victorian series for the 2023/2024 season.

Chevi put her best foot forward with a win at Simpson on December 27 and followed this up with two second-place podium finishes at Laang on December 28 and Avalon on December 30. The fourth race was a wash-out.

The 15-year-old was the only junior of 23 competing for the title to make three podium finishes across the series and won with an impressive 12 point lead.

“After the first win there were some nerves going into the next race because I held the points and knew I had to keep that momentum going,” she said.

Chevi was presented with the perpetual trophy with her name engraved at Simpson on Saturday.

She was one of four females competing across the series and encouraged more girls to try the typically male-dominated sport.

Chevi has strong support from her family throughout the season which began in November and ends in April.

Preparing for a race meet is a family affair, with father Jason, and brothers Jett and Chase all helping with vehicle checks and maintenance. Her brothers too with their own racing pursuits. Chase, 13, competed in the same class, coming in at 19th.

The family become known around the tracks as ‘Team Green’ with their signature green vehicles.

2024 represents Chevi’s last full season in the junior division which races 12 to 17 years, but she aims to further her racing career.

“The opportunities are endless in speedway and I am looking forward to whatever is next,” she said.
