Woodend Cricket Club has supported the McGrath Foundation since 2011, and on Saturday more than 70 guests enjoyed a high tea at Gilbert Gordon Oval, enabling the club to raise funds for breast cancer research.
Pink Stumps Day included plenty of fun and games, live music, raffles, giveaways and auctions.
Early indications reveal the club raised more than $5000 for the McGrath Foundation.
Guest speakers included Australian indoor cricket captain Nicole Martin, Lyn and Annette from the Zonta Club of Melton, and Moira Quinn — GP and women’s health expert.
Organiser Tegan Eastley said she was overwhelmed by the support from local businesses who generously donated prizes for the day.
Tegan also said she couldn’t wait for Pink Stumps Day next year.
Celebrations included a big win for Woodend’s First XI, and a century (116) for the club’s senior coach, Josh Eastley.
Local musician Nathan Dixon saved the day when he stepped in at short notice with some amazing live music — and continued late into the night.
WCC president Daniel Heaney thanked all involved in making the occasion a success.
The cricket club has entered its first Under 13 girls’ team this season, and some of the girls came along to enjoy the day.
From just two girls in 2022-23, Woodend Cricket Club now has 30 girls participating in junior cricket and Cricket Blast this season.
“We hope to add an Under 15 team next season,” the president said.
Brenda McDonald was emcee and Ashlyn Brown came from Wales for the event. Colleen Eastley, Mel Gardner, Jasmine Gardner and Brenda McDonald helped organise the event. All the guests on the ground during the tea break.
