Harcourt motorsport competitor Kevin West was proud to be awarded the Bevan Gibson Trophy (Sports Cars) at the recent Phillip Island Classic.

West took out the award honour for demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment, sportmanship and presentation for the 2024 season.

“It was a real honour to receive the award as it recognises sportsmanship, overall presentation and the ideals and example that officials want to see around the track,” he said.

West continues to fly the flag and race the beloved Norax that he and late local car enthusiast and Guildford Grumpies’ member Peter Turner competed in.

“The car was built in 1986 by three friends at the Norax Lamp Factory in South Australia. They built three cars. Peter admired this one for many years,” West said.

“I am currently racing in the Group Q Historic Sports Car class.

“We generally race about four events a year including Phillip Island, the upcoming Mallala, Winton and the main event,” he said.

Locals will have the chance to view the unique car when West attends the Guildford Grumpies’ 2025 Peter Turner Memorial Show & Shine this Sunday April 6 at the John Powell Reserve at Guildford.

“We had a great start to the 2025 season at Phillip Island,” West said.

“The pick of the racing would have been the battle with John Bowe in a Porsche. Where I came out in front and finished with a 2nd place!

“It was a hot and windy weekend at the island. I’d like to thank all the friends and family members in the ‘West Family Racing’ crew that help keep the car on the track!” he said.
