What a final!

Kyneton's midweek division one team turned in a sterling performance in the final at Moama.

Kyneton Bowling Club’s midweek division one team turned in a sterling performance in the grand final of the Victorian Bowls 2024-25 Pennant Championship last week.

In a memorable contest, Tallygaroopna finished up winning the absorbing final by two shots, 48-46, with the outcome in the balance right up until the final end.

The Kyneton club has had a extraordinarily successful season, with the club extending hearty congratulations to all members for their efforts on and off the field.

Kyneton had earlier missed out on the Saturday first division pennant final at Moama, finishing third with three wins and two defeats in a very strong section.

To make the midweek grand final, Kyneton had three wins and two losses, yet finished on top of the ladder in its section — against all the odds with eight teams each playing five matches.

Section heavyweights Ocean Grove and Bendigo East played a 36-36 tie, ruining their prospects.

Kyneton defeated both these sides, and scraped into the final with a cluster of teams narrowly missing out.

A THRILLER

The final was an absolute thriller, with Tallygaroopna opening up a healthy lead in the early stages against the Ballarat-Highlands Regional premiers.

Kyneton players fought back, and hit the front, only to see their opponents regroup and take control in the last few ends to earn the title.

The final was one of the best seen at Moama in recent seasons.

Final scores were 48-46.

This is how the Kyneton rinks fared: Brian Johnson, Denise Knight, Terry Kelly, Conrad Dawson (s) 12 lost to Matt Robertson (s) 22; Glen Gascoyne, Christine Plowman, David Kennedy, Greg Podesta 13 lost to David Dawes (s) 15; Jim Cooper, Allan Mathison, Jerry Richmond, Anthony Mathison (s) 22.
