The Bendigo League’s senior football squad for the forthcoming match against the VAFA will have its first training run at Camp Reserve, Castlemaine, next Wednesday.
There are 13 players in the squad who represented Bendigo in last season’s match against the VAFA at Elsternwick Park. The home side won 12.13 (85) to 10.12 (72).
This year Bendigo will play the VAFA at Queen Elizabeth Oval on Sunday, July 13.
Bendigo coach Simon Rosa said the league was pleased with the depth and quality across the board.
“It’s a great mix of proven performers and emerging talent from all BFNL clubs.”
Gisborne FNC has six players in the squad, including last year’s captain Jack Reaper.
The other Gisborne players are Shane Clough, Dylan Johnstone, Matt Merrett and Zac Vescovi and Harry Luxmoore.
Castlemaine representatives are coach Michael Hartley, Josh Eyre, Kal Huntly and Ryan Eyre.
Hartley is enthusiastic about the July 13 encounter.
“These are the kind of games you really get up for.
” We know the VAFA will bring a quality side, and we’ll have to be at our best,” Hartley said.
Sandhurst has the biggest representation in the squad, with nine players including super star Lachlan Tardrew and key forward Fergus Greene.
