Consistency pays off

Kyneton-trained Per Sempre has proved to be a very honest galloper, and chalked up her third win at Seymour on Sunday.

It was the five-year-old mare’s second win this month. She has been a model of consistency for trainer and part-owner Charles Cassar.

July’s been a great month for Per Sempre and connections.

At her 16th start she won at Wangaratta earlier this month as a $4 chance after successive seconds at Bendigo and Donald — following her Maiden win when ridden by Neil Farley at Wangaratta on May 15.

Ryan Hurdle has been the winning jockey at Per Sempre’s past two runs, both over 1000 metres.

The old racing adage of ‘The more you win — the better the price’ certainly applied on Sunday as she went out as a $12 chance.

Hurdle got her to the line at Seymour with less than a length to spare.

Cassar came to Australia from Malta with his parents in 1975, and has always had an interest in horses.

He trains from his property at Pipers Creek, and has had a share of success over the years.
