Kyneton’s Brad Vereker is looking to the Bathurst 1000 weekend on October 9-12 with enthusiasm as part of the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series.
Vereker made his Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes debut at Darwin last year and has joined Western Sydney Motorsport for a full 2025 series.
The October 9-12 Bathurst 1000 weekend will mark his first time racing at Bathurst.
“As possibly the only driver in my series that hasn’t raced there before, I need to be realistic and work up into it over the weekend,” Vereker told the Express.
“Bathurst is a track that requires huge commitment and a lot of blind corners so you rely on muscle memory as well as hitting your marks across the top of the mountain to be fast.
“The place can bite hard so I need to respect it and do a lot of work over the weekend to be competitive.”
He’ll be behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux V8 SuperUte: Chevrolet LS3 powered Toyota Hilux, which he describes as “very different to your road-going ute”.
Some of Vereker’s highlights from the series so far include racing on a street circuit for the first time at Townsville and achieving his best result of sixth. He has also enjoyed the range of circuits.
“As I’ve done the whole series in 2025, I’ve been able to learn the cars and what you have to do to get the most out of them to be fast, which has been fun,” Vereker said.
“We do a huge amount of prep work for every track we visit which, this year, have been all new tracks.
“A lot of watching in-car footage, taking notes to get all you brake markers, gear positions, lines and finding any little tricks to the tracks that may help.”
Of course, he has been backed by huge support from home including local businesses that have been part of his racing journey for many years. His Cooka Club membership has also reached more than 40.
Vereker has secured a major sponsor for the last two rounds at Bathurst and Sandown: the large national transport and logistics company JWL logistics. He also has major local support from Prendergast Earthmoving for Bathurst, who have been behind him right from the start.
Anyone interested in being a sponsor can contact Brad via 0447 920 155.
All races and qualifying can be viewed live on Fox Sports and Kayo from Thursday lunchtime to Sunday as well as some on Channel 7 over the weekend.
