Skip steps down

Riddell senior football coach Aaron Bray has announced he is stepping down from his role two weeks after delivering the Bombers a back-to-back premiership win.

The decision was made public in a post to the team’s social media page last Thursday and featured a statement from Bray.

“With a heavy heart, I’m announcing my decision to step down from my role as senior coach at Riddell Football Club,” he wrote.

“This is not a decision I’ve taken lightly—it comes after a great deal of reflection and emotion.

“The memories we’ve made together—the battles on the field, the moments of triumph, the setbacks that made us stronger—they will stay with me forever. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, and even prouder of the people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside.

“To the coaches and staff: thank you for believing in me and challenging me. To my players that I have had the honour of coaching these last two years: thank you for the brotherhood, the laughter, and the relentless fight we put in for each other week in and week out.

“In a way this club has shaped who I am—not just as a coach, but as a person. Stepping away is painful, but I believe it’s the right moment—for myself and for the club.

“I’ll always carry the Riddell Football Club in my heart after winning back-to-back premierships, and I’ll be watching the club progress from afar now. This may be goodbye for now, but it’s never the end of the story.”

Bray has served as the club’s head coach for the past two seasons. It is not yet known if he will be involved with another football club for the 2026 season.
