Winners keep coming

Kyneton trainer Charles Cassar is on the best winning streak of his lengthy career, with first starter Cosmic Vixen leading all the way to win impressively at Ballarat last week.

This made it four winners from just seven starters in October for Cassar, who is now training a larger team than previously possible.

Cassar said buying stables at the local course had made a difference, rather than just operating from his farm at Pipers Creek.

“We’ve got a good team of riders and stable staff as well, and have ended up with some good horses,” he said after Cosmic Vixen won the 1000m Global Turf Maiden.

Ridden by Will Gordon, the mare started as a $5.50 chance and jumped quickly from barrier 7.

She was never headed and finished clear of other first starters in Point My Finger and Tipsy Gypsy.

Cassar said he knew Cosmic Vixen had plenty of ability, and it was very satisfying as the galloper should improve further on her debut run.

He described owner Morgan Payne (MP Racing) as a very good judge. He had obtained Cosmic Vixen after seeing her in jump outs.

Cassar is hoping the current winning streak for his stable can continue.

There are races at Kyneton today (Tuesday), and the 2025 Kyneton Cup is coming up on Wednesday, November 5.
