Wallan cricket premiers

Wallan Cricket Club president Rob Fowler and Gisborne Cricket Club president Greg Hall enjoy the sunshine and the game at the Women's A-grade final.

In an extremely close Kookaburra A-grade women’s grand final on Sunday, Wallan defeated the well-credentialled Gisborne lineup with 10 balls to spare, at Greenhill Reserve.

Gisborne captain Brianna Woodburn top scored with 61, and Emily McDonald made 29, in a total tally of 133 (30 overs).

Megan Farrell claimed 4–18, and Terrie Haydon 3–17.

Farrell starred with an unbeaten 63 not out and was Player of the Match.

Charlie Laity 30 and Kia Montgomery 15 lent support, and the Magpies finished at 6/134 in 28.2 overs.

McDonald captured 4–20.

It was a historic premiership for Wallan in the GDCA.

Melton Centrals won the B-grade flag against Lancefield Yellow by taking control with 3/171 in 20 overs.

Belinda Guiney 52 ret., Rhiannah Jordan 41, Katrina Huenig 27 — Destinee-Jayde Murtatto 2–25.

Lancefield replied with 1/125 (Emily Consiglio 50 ret., Molly Consiglio 27 not out, Megan Richardt 23).
