For the second successive season, outstanding all-rounder Brianna Woodburn is the Most Valuable Player in Gisborne District Cricket Association’s Kookaburra women’s cricket.
Not only did the outstanding 26-year-old all-rounder and Gisborne women’s captain-coach win the 2025-26 season MVP award, she monopolised the trophy pool by taking out the A-grade batting, bowling and aggregate points awards as well.
It was no surprise to see Woodburn take out the top award when votes were counted at the GDCA’s Presentation Night last Wednesday.
Afterwards, she admitted she would have preferred to swap her trophies for the A-grade premiership. Gisborne lost a close grand final to Wallan this season.
Last season Woodburn won the MVP award with 30 votes, two more than Wallan captain Megan Farrell.
The winner is a really true accomplished all-rounder who bats, bowls, and keeps wicket .
The same two players singled out in this season’s vote count, Woodburn winning with 23 votes, four clear of Farrell.
Bacchus Marsh’s Sarah Bamford was third on 12 votes.
There was sustained applause for the MVP winner from all quarters, and particularly from Gisborne CC members in attendance.
Woodburn enjoys imparting her cricket knowledge to younger players in particular, and is also a fine footballer, playing an important role in Macedon’s last two premiership sides.
