Romsey A-grade netballers may not have had the season they hoped for, but in their round 13 match on Saturday, they almost put a huge dent in Kyneton’s bid to play finals.
Only four matches were played, and the Romsey versus Kyneton encounter was a thriller.
The outcome was a 42-42 tie, with both sides lamenting on not capitalising on chances.
Obtaining two points for the tie, Kyneton is now sixth on the ladder, with Macedon just two points in arrears.
The Redbacks are in ninth place, with just two wins, but the spirit they showed was commendable.
In fact, Romsey won four matches and tied one in the club’s best overall performance this season.
Kyneton’s super star Elle Bird came up with 36 goals, and tireless Maddison Thompson scored 22 for the home side after earlier starring with 44 in B-grade, where the Redbacks are unbeaten.
Seventh-placed Macedon did what was required with a 54-26 performance against Diggers Rest. The Cats are still a big chance as the ladder is somewhat cluttered.
Molly McGrath 35 goals and Chloe Williams 19 shared scoring duties for the home side, which goes to tackle third-placed Gisborne Giants in the match of the round this weekend.
HAWKS HALT TOP TEAM
Back with a strong lineup, reigning premiers Woodend-Hesket showed their class by topping ladder leader Wallan 46-32.
Playing coach Ty Coppinger, Emily Fitzgerald and quality shooter Kayla Stanton were in fine form, and the Hawks showed Wallan can be contained.
The third-placed Giants consolidated with a convincing 58-39 away performance against Melton Centrals.
Ultra-consistent Maria Seumanutafa was in fine form with 43 goals.
The Giants are looking forward to taking on the Cats on Saturday.
