Kyneton’s FIDA football team has claimed back-to-back premierships after producing a determined 24-point victory over the previously undefeated Sunbury Kangaroos at the Showgrounds on Sunday.
The Tigers entered the grand final as underdogs against a Kangaroos side that had not lost a game all season, but rose to the occasion with a disciplined team performance to secure the premiership, 6.9 (45) to 2.9 (21).
Team manager Kristy Torney said it was a hard-fought contest from the opening bounce, with every player contributing when it mattered most.
“It was amazing team play right from the start, with the Tigers linking up well and taking on some hard contests at the ball,” she said.
Jordan kicked the Tigers’ opening goal, while Zac finished with a match-winning haul of five majors.
Ms Torney said the team was buoyed by outstanding support from the Kyneton community.
“The crowd witnessed a truly spectacular game of footy. We could not be prouder of where this team has come this year,” she said.
She also thanked coach Peter Connor, assistant coach and runner Brandan Sliwczynski, co-team manager Jess Horan and runner Harry Bucki for their commitment throughout the season.
Organisers congratulated both teams on an entertaining and sportsmanlike grand final.
