Ruby Watts’ rating as the outstanding player in Riddell League women’s football was further enhanced as she captured the league’s best and fairest for the third season in a row.
After winning the top award with 31 votes in 2024, and 35 last season, Watts finished ahead of her Macedon teammate Taya Konias in the 2026 league count on Thursday night.
She was also the Most Valuable Player for 2026, illustrating her talent, consistency and dedication in a side that went through the season undefeated.
Ruby’s unflappable leadership and ball-winning qualities are a shining example to all, and from the time she was a very young player at Gisborne, to her current high status at Macedon, the name of Ruby Watts is part and parcel of what there is to like about women’s football.
Versatile Taya Konias, in her first season with the Cats, was best afield in the grand final and the Macedon club was thrilled to see her poll so well.
The triple medal winner’s leadership extends beyond football.
“Ruby is also a fantastic role model at our club, coaching our Under 18 girls and being vice-captain of our senior team,” a Gisborne Cricket Club spokesman stated.
Macedon FNC representatives warmly congratulated Watts and Konias after the count was completed.
Macedon had nine players in the women’s Team of the Year — namely Watts, Konias, Brianna Woodburn, Alex Cairney, Charlotte Noonan, Lilli Collins, Samantha Pointer, Shakira Parker and Lily Prater.
