“All I can say is this guy stood by us in really hard times,” was how Kyneton Football Netball Club president Hayden Evans described the first prize winner in the club’s major raffle for 2022.
The winner was staunch clubman and on-field leader Harrison Huntley, with the first prize being worth nearly $160,000 all up.
“He’s a fantastic guy …. go and get him out of the rooms,” Evans decreed at the official draw during the half-time interval of the Kyneton versus Maryborough senior match on Saturday.
Huntley, who spends his on-field time making it tough for opposition forwards, found it hard to believe he held the winning ticket in the major raffle – the biggest yet conducted by the club.
A large gathering of Tiger supporters gathered outdoors for the supervised draw, with Evans announcing all tickets had been sold.
The first prize was a 2022 Toyota Hilux Rugged 4×4 supplied by Kyneton Toyota, and a Victory Trophy 21-foot three bunch family caravan from Victory Caravans in Bendigo. Both are painted in the famous yellow and black colours of the Tigers.
Second prize of a $8000 travel voucher was shared by three enthusiastic locals who were present for the draw – namely Scott Paterson, Bill Young and Sam Priestley.
The third prize, a $2000 camping package, went to Kilsyth South resident Tim Brannan.
Before the draw, Evans handed over $3500 to help the work of Kyneton Foodbank and Kynerton Collective as part of the club’s assistance towards worthy charitable groups in the are.
The president thanked “the fantastic committee” behind the raffle, and the online programmers who sold tickets far and wide.
Evans also singled out many of the Tigers’ major sponsors for special praise.
They included Kyneton Toyota, Kyneton on Riverside, Prendergast Earthmoving, Barfold Quarries, Wicklow Group and Palmer, Stevens and Rennick, Landmark and Elders (both Kyneton).
He guaranteed the club would again be running another major raffle with great prizes.
