Romsey Football Netball Club’s application for 50 electronic gaming machines to re-open the Romsey Hotel has reignited passionate community debate from more than a decade ago.
The owner underwent a lengthy legal battle after applying for for 30 EGMs at the hotel in 2005, which raised significant opposition in the community and landed in the Supreme Court. The pub lost its battle and has been closed since 2017.
Last week Macedon Ranges Shire Council advised it had received significant interest in the application and developed a FAQs and information page to assist residents.
RFNC lodged an application with the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission and advertised its intention publicly on October 24.
This application is not directly with the council and the council has signalled its intention to make a submission to the VGCCC in response.
Members of the public can provide their own submissions directly to the VGCCC via a portal link on the council’s website and can also request to attend and speak at the hearing through the VGCCC.
