Early start for grand finals

Kyneton Golf skipper Adrian Plowman in action last Sunday ahead of what should be a crackerjack division 1 grand final against Romsey.

The three Highlands area pennant bowls 2023-24 grand finals this weekend will now begin at 10am – instead of 1.15pm – due to forecasts for extremely hot weather conditions.

The five-member Highlands pennant match committee chaired by John Coates made this decision in the interests of both players and spectators.

There has been a positive reaction from member clubs to the move to bring the starting time forward and avoid the hottest time of the day.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the division 2 and 3 grand finals take place at Kyneton.

Romsey and Kyneton Golf are the division 2 participants, with Lancefield taking on Gisborne(3) for the division 3 title.

DIVISION 1

What should be a crackerjack division 1 grand final takes place at Lancefield between reigning premier Kyneton Golf and Romsey.

In the second semi-final, top-of-the-ladder Romsey won by 18 shots, and the 12 players in the Redbacks’ side have the added incentive of knowing they have the chance to bring the Romsey club its first-ever top grade pennant.

On the other hand, most of the Kyneton Golf contingent are old hands at competing in grand finals!

Lancefield club president Jeff Smith said Lancefield was very pleased to be able to host the grand final, and looked forward to spectators attending from near and far.

So the message for both Saturday and Sunday is ….. Don’t forget! Bowls action begins at 10am.
