Playing on the Edge is a new Castlemaine Circus show that will showcase the talents of professional and emerging artists on Saturday November 30 at 7pm and Sunday December 1 at 12pm.
The show will take a dive into our hyper safe world and explore how we need to take risks, bust through barriers, be playful and courageous and create a bit of chaos.
Beautifully choreographed and lots of fun, this is a unique performance made specifically for the Castlemaine Circus venue. There will be a large ensemble of professional and young emerging artists from Castlemaine.
Twenty-nine performers in fact! All performing on stage together, giving you the best in parkour, aerial, circus and live music.
Castlemaine’s much-admired musician and teacher, Justin Marshall, has mentored the Circus Band and helped them to devise funky, original music perfectly integrated into the show. The music travels from energetic to dreamy, chromatic to rhythmic as each scene unfolds. Musicians become part of the performance and performers become part of the band.
You will see the circus and parkour artists showing off their awe-inspiring acrobatic tricks, parkour flips and summersaults, aerial drops and spins and good old-fashioned clowning all under the creative direction of Asking for Trouble, Luke O’Connor and Christy Flaws.
A Regional Arts grant enabled Castlemaine Circus to employ Luke and Christy, two amazing physical theatre directors based in Clunes. Together they collaborated over many months to develop this highly exceptional show utilising the talents of Castlemaine Circus (students and trainers) and the musicians of Castlemaine Secondary College.
Tickets are $25/$15 and on sale at Castlemaine Circus and online at www.trybooking.com/CWJJG
This project was made possible by the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia. The Circus Band is supported by Music for All.
