Festooned with hand-made Christmas trees, bunting and bows, Castlemaine resembles the township of ‘Whoville’ from the Christmas classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Unfortunately, the resemblance does not end there. Like every classic tale, a villain appeared and stole the ladder the volunteers were using to decorate the town.
The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
In the end, the good guys have prevailed and locals have taken to the Facebook group Castlemainia en-masse to thank the small group of dedicated volunteers for their countless hours of work into making sure Castlemaine’s Christmas spirit remains bright.
But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn’t be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Whoville! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
