Step back in time to the 80s and 90s to experience the genius of Kate Bush’s music with the KB Band.
Featuring some of her greatest hits and highlighting some lesser-known songs, the band will treat audiences to a moving and uplifting performance.
Singer, saxophonist, trombone and sitar player, Teamo Henderson said he knew nothing about Kate Bush’s music until three months ago.
“It’s been total immersion since then and I’ve loved it completely. The lyrics are so complicated, so crazy, weird, and bizarre. She’s a genius.”
Lead singer Catherine Koerner has been listening to Kate Bush for the past 45 years. As an aspiring singer she had found someone she could relate to.
“I first saw her on Countdown in 1978 and I was just like, ‘wow!'” she said.
“I’d be dancing around and singing to the whole album, so I know that first album like the back of my hand. I think it’ll be the last thing that I forget if I get dementia, is the The Kick Inside album.”
Bass guitarist Trevor Reading believes Kate’s song writing, singing and performing really stretched the boundaries of pop music.
“She really took it to, you could say, progress rock extremes.”
Lead guitarist Scott Sanders thinks that what sets Kate Bush apart from other popular musicians of her time, was taking the idea of popular, commercial packaging.
“But there’s also this depth and intelligence and veracity. There’s a truthfulness to it. It’s honest and it’s challenging, but it’s always beautiful as well,” he said.
This upbeat and inspiring performance by the KB Band will showcase at the Castlemaine Fringe Festival for two nights only.
Wednesday April 2 and Saturday, April 5 from 8pm at the Phee Broadway Theatre, Mechanics Lane Castlemaine.
