Kyneton’s FIDA football team will run out for an historic second consecutive Grand Final this Sunday (July 26), looking to defend the premiership they won in stunning fashion last year.
The Tigers meet Sunbury at Kyneton Showgrounds, first bounce at 11:30am, in the 2026 FIDA Grand Final.
Last year’s flag ended a long wait for the club — the Tigers went through the 2025 season unbeaten after several seasons without a win.,
Dedicated coach Peter Connor called the turnaround premiership one of the proudest achievements of his time with the team.
Connor is back at the FIDA helm again this season, alongside co-coach Brandan Sliwczynski.
This season the Tigers have been chasing something no Kyneton FIDA side has done before: going back-to-back.
Team manager Kristy Torney said before this season began that the group knew exactly what it would take to get there again.
“Their passion, resilience, and a love for the game is what is going to give them a second premiership,” Torney said.
“Going back-to-back won’t be easy, but this group has the heart and determination to make it happen.”
The Kyneton FIDA Tigers won their historic first flag 2025 by defeating Bendigo FIDA Suns 7.5 (47) to 5.2 (32) at Weeronna Oval in Bendigo.
The squad has welcomed two new faces this season in Sheamus and Karen, adding fresh energy to a group already building on last year’s success.
Billy, who missed last year’s premiership win through injury, is back and looking forward to finally getting his shot at Grand Final day.
The Kyneton FIDA program sits under the statewide Football Integration Development Association, giving players of all abilities the chance to play Australian Rules Football in a welcoming, community-driven environment.
Under Connor and Sliwczynski, the squad has built its season on the same qualities that carried them to the flag last year – teamwork, positivity and steady improvement week to week.
