The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has commissioned a new three-part TV series about the life of Evonne Goolagong and filming of the production took place last in Kyneton last Friday.
TV crews were seen filming inside The Kyneton Hotel and a few blocks away outside The Royal George Hotel. While many details about the show remain unknown, a letter sent by the production team to the Express stated the show’s working title was Goolagong.
The Indigenous Australian was previously the world’s number one female tennis player with a career spanning from 1967 to 1983, and on Screen Australia’s website, the show’s synopsis states:
“In 1958, a skinny Indigenous seven-year-old peered through the wire fence of the Barellan tennis courts, longing to play the sport she instinctively knew was her game. That longing would drive her to become the world’s number one female tennis player, and one of Australia’s most loved sportswomen, winning 14 Grand Slam titles including Wimbledon twice, and overcoming harassment from her coach, recovery from childbirth, and injury to defeat her great rival and be the world number one.”
The show is currently in pre-production.
Film crews set up at The Kyneton Hotel on Friday.
